PART 2: SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION

The Reformulation strategy and the Read Aloud Intervention are both effective techniques used by classroom teachers to offer individualized and small group instruction to students.  The reformulation strategy consist of a native speaker re-writing the text written by the ELL.  I like this strategy because it offers the ELL an opportunity to work collaboratively with others to notice and discuss the linguistic problems in their text and to rewrite the text using what they learned from the discussion.  When teachers provide a rubric that includes the appropriate language to notice, it makes it easier for students to notice the linguistical errors in the writing.
In my class, the students' English vocabulary is very limited and struggle with pronunciation.  In my opinion, I believe this is negatively affecting their reading comprehension.  Hence, this particular group would benefit from the reading aloud intervention.  This would improve their understanding of what they have read and build their reading fluency.  I think this strategy will help them develop their oral language skills by exposing them to new vocabulary and the correct sounds and pronunciation of words in English.  This would also allow them to practice their reading fluency.  The one on one intervention is favorable because I would be able to observe their reading performances and offer immediate feedback to the students.  Students would then incorporate these strategies when they read.
