I
agree with the researcher's point of view in regards to the major issues
in teaching literacy to U.S Latino students. I think that in trying to
understand these issues, it is important to pool information from the
right sources. The teachers are valid sources of information because
they spend the most time with our students and are constantly assessing
and evaluating their academic growth. The teachers can provide the most
accurate assessment because they know the students well, personal
histories, learning styles, behaviors, strengths/weaknesses, most
effective and least effective strategies etc. All this data provided by
the teacher can help us form a complete picture of a students academic
performance. This is the kind of information that helps us formulate
ideas and make conclusions on the effectiveness of programs in the
classroom. Hence, if we are going to evaluate any literacy program or
the best way to teach our Latino students how to read, teachers can
provide us with the best and most accurate data available.
